Rare blue lapis pietra dura 18k etruscan pin
These works of art fashioned into jewelry are quite spectacular and one can get lost in the detail that lift these pieces from the common to the exceptional. Pietra dura is made by taking thin slices of colored glass stones, making them into shapes, and fitting them together as though they were a puzzle. What makes this one so unique is the flower is laid against blue lapis, rather than the more common black marble. This pietra dura pin, made in Florentine blends the best of pietra dura artisan craftsmanship with Etruscan revival gold work. And what a site to behold! The flower has brilliant shades of color that show up dramatically against the blue lapis background. The lapis is set in a 18k gold frame that has an applied border of corded wire. And of course it has the early, "c" clasp with the extended pin back. It tests 18k gold. The pin is 1 1/8" wide, and mounds 1/4" tall. It is in excellent vintage condition and guaranteed to be authentic Bohemian. vintagejewelryonline.com
